Important warning

Important warning

2.1 Any element applied on the roof of the vehicle alters its standard conditions; therefore, it is necessary to suitably lower speed;
2.2 It is also necessary to consider the quality of roadbed, traffic, environmental and weather conditions;
2.3 Autohome-car roof shell tents are handicraft products realized through accurate manual techniques, therefore it is possible to verify weight variations, in the range of 10 %. When calculating the carriable load it is recommended to take this factor into consideration, as well as the weight of the roof racks used and possible objects stored inside the tent (ladders, additional accessories and/or personal equipment). Do not exceed maximum load allowed on the roof given by the vehicle’s manufacturer;
2.4 Perfectly close the tent and always check load fixing before leaving;
2.5 The same operation shall be carried out also during trip pauses;
2.6 We suggest to pay the utmost attention in case of transport of a supplementary luggage in tents models allowing it; it is necessary to consider the maximum load allowed on the vehicle, on roof-rack and the total load transported.
  Pay attention not to exceed the maximum load allowed for transport indicated on the vehicle's registration document.
The maximum load specified in the assembly instruction is not to be exceeded.
We also suggest to carefully read technical instructions concerning the matter or to ask for detailed information by e-mail to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
The manufacturer declines any responsibility for any accident due to improper use, wrong maintenance or for non-respect of general rules concerning the use of the tent that have been given with the product.

We also recommend to do the following:

2.7 Do not leave children in an unattended tent;
2.8 Pay attention to maximum height allowed in subways, covered parking and to any of the following obstacles: barriers, street signals and advertising, prominent rocks, trees etc.;
2.9 In case of car + tent washing in automatic car wash with rolls, be sure that it allows car + tent washing;
2.10 Do not transport inflammable or dangerous objects inside the tent;
2.11 Avoid parking or camping in high environmental risk areas or during extraordinary weather conditions appearance (typhoons, hurricane, overflows, floods, land slide, etc.);
2.12 Pay the utmost attention during off-road trips and extreme raids.

General suggestions for tent’s use

  We invite you to carefully read specific instructions and general regulations for the use and maintenance of the tent; instructions are to be considered as an integral part of it. Some common directions:

3.1

High resistance mosquito nets (soft glass fiber) need due caution: do not violently pull them or hit them. Strong pressure could produce tear, split seams or ladders. The breakings, being attributable to wrong manipulation, are excluded from the guarantee.

The producer cannot be held responsible for mosquito net breaking;

3.2 Zips shall be kept in order: we suggest to regularly carry out a careful cleaning, always paying the utmost attention in order to avoid tears or damages to the fabric.
To obtain a perfect functioning of the zip we suggest to treat it with some lubricating sprays, soap or wax. Before using the zip, as it is for Velcro, we suggest to remove possible sand, mud or similar residuals;
3.3 Do not roughly handle windows opening strings or pull them with strength in the relevant models and in general do the same with elastics;
3.4 In case of strong wind, close awnings, changing rooms and any other element that could produce a “sail” effect. In case of incessant rain, remove possible water pockets forming on the roof. The weight of such water pockets could bend or damage the supporting poles. As to verandas, even if they are equipped with solid independent poles, the latter are temporary structures being not resistant to extreme weather conditions. Therefore, it is advisable to fold up or not to utilize such elements, in the event adverse weather conditions are expected;
3.5 Check and, if it is the case, remove any possible deposit of exceeding snow, ice or water from tents roof, animal excrements and vegetal resins included (in particular, act with moderation during fabric cleaning);
3.6 During opening or closing procedures of the roof tents, be sure that no travel objects (pillows, blankets, sleeping bags) or exceeding personal objects interfere with the operation;
3.7 In Maggiolina and Columbus models, the tightening of the hooks (external metal closing devices) is adjustable; it is suggested not to exceed in tightening. In Airtop models, a strong tightening of closing elements (Rally-Race strings) is necessary: completely push the toothed tongue in the specially provided hook, up to end of stroke.
3.8 Avoid running with opened tent;
3.9 Always open shell closing hooks (in relevant models) before using the handle; with no handle shells do not open, nor close;
3.10 In tents models with gas springs close the tent checking for the tension rod to be perfectly perpendicular: the string shall be pulled downwards in a straight way (do not pull or lead the string in a lateral or oblique direction), because an abnormal deformation of the upper structure could cause a breakage of the finish silver profile being in the front of the shell;
3.11 In the models made of fabric, to obtain the best insulation level and prevent any water or sand infiltration from occurring, it is necessary for the pvc cover-elastic to be well-tightened: adjust the elastic’s length and check for the Pvc covering to be perfectly adherent to the base of the tent;
3.12 In Overzone series, before closing the tent, it is necessary to unlock the projecting tent’s extension structure loosening the internal locks. If this operation is neglected, the fabric around the knobs could tear (see in detail the instructions given with the product).

4.

Glass fibre shells

Shells have been realized according to an accurate handicraft technique that offers the best guarantees: a compact and durable quality structure that cannot be compared to common plastic or similar products present in market on the market.

4.1 Also laboratory results have proved great elasticity of the fibre and extraordinary resilience of gelcoat/colour; however, being the latter a superficial component more rigid than fibre, it is necessary not to hit, bend or deform the article in anomalous manners.
Incorrect actions could bring about superficial colour micro-breaks microcracks that the Manufacturer will not recognize in the terms of Warranty.
4.2 Colour superficial micro-breaks microcracks are only an aesthetic factor, they do not jeopardize the articles’ functionality, nor cause water or dust infiltration; they can always and easily be restored, by some painting or car repairer’s operations.
4.3 Pay the utmost attention in handling shell tents.
It is recommended not to force, deform or bend the upper shell, paying special attention to sides and borders.
4.4 Do not hit shells in a violent manner. Do not drag shells on the ground with no protection.
4.5 Do not transport the tent catching it from the border of the roof; use the specially provided handles or hollows under the bases.
4.6 While closing the tent, as the fabric is bended inside the shells when folding the textile inside the shells when unfolding the textile inside the shells , do not lift or deform the border of the roof: this operation could cause superficial colour micro-breaks microcracks.
4.7 While climbing on the ladder, do not cling with all your weight to the border of the roof: such a stress can cause superficial micro-breaks microcracks on the shell.
4.8 Position the ladder inside the shells according to use and maintenance instructions, which are an integral part of the product. For example, when eiderdowns and covers reach too much thickness or volume, do not lean also the ladder onto them, in that excessive volume could cause damages to the roof bottom or glass fibre. Put the ladder inside the shells according to the use and maintenance instructions which are integral part of the product. For instance, do not position the ladder onto quilts and blankets which are bulky or thick, as an excessive volume could damage the internal roof or the fibreglass.
4.9 While closing the tent, anomalous forcing or pressure on the shell very often cause superficial micro-breaks microcracks, that are sometimes visible only during ordinary maintenance. Pay the utmost attention to anything that is introduced in it.
4.10 During the tent’s use, even its users’ movement can deform the shell and this can cause small superficial cracks in the colour, visible on the outside.
4.11 To close the tents provided with gas springs follow the indications of use and maintenance instructions; do not act directly on the shell. Excessive stress on the shell in a wrong point or excessive manual bending of the border could cause superficial micro-breaks microcracks.
4.12 Micro-breaks Microcracks are mostly due to incorrect use or accidental causes; Micro-breaks Microcracks shall never be considered as due to production faults and in no case they shall fall within the product’s warranty conditions. See also the special extract (superficial microcracks) about the matter in “ General use and maintenance rules”, which are an integral part of the product.
4.13 During storage, it is recommended to position the shell roof tent by using a protection in order to avoid any scratch of on glass fibre fibreglass; use for example some cardboard, polystyrene, sponge or moquette. Do not overturn the tent, always position it on its base.

Fabric characteristics

Autohome fabric is produced by leading European Companies. Each fabric is in compliance with high quality standards and is different from each other depending upon its product characteristics.

In case of rain, the minimum water column value is equal to 250 mm (vertical fabric) and 600 mm (roof): these values are the result of tests carried out according to UNI EN 20811.

Tightness can be achieved by using the Winter hood (optional); notwithstanding this hood simplifies a condensation forming and limits the breathability of the fabric, it allows the tent inside to be insulated against the cold.

All the fabrics, in particular Over/Land-Camp-Zone fabric, reach the stated water column value after some exposure to rain.

When the tent is new, the fabric fibres are very dry and do not expand; therefore, both the fabric and the seams do not allow the necessary water repellence to be achieved. So, in case of new tents, it is advisable to artificially dampen the fabric (in the garden, for instance) and dry it before utilizing the tent.
The more the fabric gets wet and is exposed, the better its breathability is; also the dew at night, the environmental humidity as well as dust particles let the textile fibre expand and the seam holes get clogged.

What does water column mean?

A water column indicates the pressure in millimetres that can weigh heavy on the fabric before the latter allows water to seep through. The value is utilized to indicate the resistance to a water seepage of tents, cloth, items, etc. ... The higher the water column value is, the better the fabric breathability is.

Anyway, too high waterproofing values also mean lower breathability. Water does not seep through PVC or nylon tents, but when people move inside or after some hours of sleep, people start sweating/will slowly be in a sweat, even worse if the ouside air temperature is rather low.

For example, imagine you sleep or stay in a lorry body equipped with tarpaulin: even if there are of course air intakes or other openings, you cannot breathe deeply, nor live in a fresh, healthy environment. In addition, the water vapour and body heat transfer speed is a very important factor, which has not to be forgotten.

To sum up, an highly breathable fabric having high water column values and low water vapour transfer values can be utilized to produce lorry tarpaulins, tent floors, roof awnings, rucksack & wheel covers and anyway when the brethability factor is of no influence.

See also the special extract (Fabric Characteristics) about the matter in " General use and maintenance rules", which are an integral part of the product.

5.

Care and maintenance

  Fabrics cleaning shall be carried out by utilising non-aggressive products (use soft sponges and anyway do not exceed in fabric rubbing).

For example, the liquid Marseille soap dilute in abundant water can be considered a particularly suitable agent.
To keep perfect fabric condition, it must regularly be cleaned. If dirt remains on fabric for a long period, it could be absorbed by the fabric and damage it. Always take care of the fabric while cleaning.

In case of sand (especially Australian sand being very fine like talcum powder), make sure it does not damage the fabric. In such a case, it is advisable to mechanically suck up the sand before utilizing water or neutral solutions.

The seams being on the roof of the bigger verandas, i.e. Overland Large and all Overcamp verandas, shall absolutely be treated with liquid paraffin or waterproofing quality sprayers. Only in this way, the fabric can show resistance to extremely adverse weather conditions. If you need information or products, please do not hesitate to contact your trusted dealer. Please ask for specific information to your usual and reliable reseller. Please ask for specific information to your usual and reliable reseller.

For polyester/ glass fibre cleaning it is possible to use any product; in case of very aggressive product, pay attention to serigraphy and labels, above all to the silver coloured profile of the upper part of the shell.

Any possible scratch, opaqueness or similar outcome concerning polyester / glass fibre can be removed by simple bodywork fixing (treat the surface in localized areas with water and abrasive paper with very fine grain, or polishing pastes).

  To keep the shell brightness, it is advisable to apply a protective wax twice a season (the same wax you use for your car). Otherwise, a general colour dullness could occur and in this case you need to polish by using car repairer's products. As to shells, in comparison with green, dark grey and black, the white colour has a remarkably higher resistance to sun rays and any other environmental factors.
5.1 Before wintering, we suggest to remove the mattress with pillows and to grease all metallic parts with a light film of oil.
Do the same on all bolts, nuts and elements concerning tents opening system, as well as on the shell's external closing devices, that shall be regularly greased;
5.2 Concerning their storage, they can be vertically (rested on their width) or horizontally stored (the base of the tent on the ground); in the latter case, do not put loads on the shells;
5.3 Before removing the tent from the vehicle, we recommend to unhook it always starting from roof-rack bars to ease disassembling;
5.4 Avoid removing the tent together with roof-rack bars to prevent any scratch from appearing on the vehicle’s bodywork;
5.5 Store the tent in a dry place.

6.

Transport and Packaging

  Any product is packaged in a solid carton box with internal polystyrene protecting devices.
6.1 The goods are shipped at buyer’s risk even if it has been sold as free delivered to buyer’s seat;
6.2 Before clearing the goods, check for the packaging to be intact; in case of tampered packaging, missing parcels or damaged cardboard boxes, please write it on transport documents and ask the forwarder to countersign your remarks for “visa”;
6.3 By doing this, the insurance will refund any possible damage. Otherwise, the loss shall be attributed to the buyer.
